Prisca Coborn
Prisca Coborn (1622-1701) was a wealthy widow (her husband was a brewer) who established a coeducational school in Bow in 1701, namely Coborn School for Girls through the terms of her will (dated 6 May 1701).〔(Schools - Coborn School | A History of the County of Middlesex: Volume 1 (pp. 290) )〕 She also gave money to help the poor of Bow and Stepney in the East End of London.〔( East End Talking )〕
She was baptized at St Mary’s Church, Bow on 30 August 1622.〔
Locally she is remembered by the street names, Coborn Road and Coborn Street, The Coborn Arms (public house) and the The Coborn Centre for Adolescent Mental Health.〔(The Coborn Centre for Adolescent Mental Health )〕
